Creating a Home Away From Home: My Room Renovation Experience in Delta Tau Delta Fraternity

Living in a fraternity house is a unique experience that allows you to customize your living space to your liking. It’s a chance to turn a plain, nondescript dorm room into a place that truly feels like home. And for me, that was exactly what sold me on rushing the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Gamma Beta Chapter.

As soon as I stepped inside the fraternity house, I knew that this was where I belonged. The house was buzzing with energy and excitement, and it was clear that the brothers who lived there had a special bond. But what really caught my attention was the fact that each room in the house was completely different from the others. It wasn’t like the cookie-cutter dorm rooms you see all over campus. No, these rooms were unique, and they were a true reflection of the people who lived in them.

I remember walking into one room and seeing a custom-made workbench with all sorts of tools scattered around. It was clear that the person who lived there was into woodworking and loved to create things with his hands. In another room, I saw a massive gaming setup with multiple screens and controllers. The person who lived there was clearly into gaming and had created a space where he could unwind and relax after a long day of classes.

It was amazing to see how each room was a physical representation of the legacy of years and years of Delts who had passed through these hallways and left a piece of their personality in the rooms they were in during their college years. Each item in the rooms, from the shelves to the whiteboards to the door decorations, told a story.

And that’s exactly what I wanted for my own room. I wanted a space that was uniquely mine, a place where I could truly be myself. And so, I started my journey to my dream room setup over the summer of 2022, when I stayed in the house due to an internship in the Chicagoland area.

The room was already furnished when I arrived, but I knew that I wanted to add my own personal touch. I started by rearranging the furniture to create more space, and then I added a few decorations to give the room some personality. But as time went on, I began to realize that I wanted to do more. I wanted to completely transform the room into something that was truly my own.

I started by building a custom desk that would fit perfectly in the corner of the room. It took me a few days to measure and cut the wood, but when it was finished, it was exactly what I wanted. I added a few shelves to the desk to store my books and papers, and I hung up a few posters to give the room some color.

But I wasn’t done yet. I wanted to create a lofted bed so that I could free up more space in the room. It took me a few weeks to build the bed frame, but when it was finished, it was perfect. I could now use the space under the bed for storage, and I had plenty of room to move around in the room.

What I love about Delta Tau Delta is that it’s more than just a fraternity; it’s a creative space where brothers can push the limits of their imaginations and bring their most outlandish concepts to life. All you need are a few brothers, some 2x4s, and screws, and you can create anything your heart desires.

And that’s exactly what I did. I created a space that was uniquely mine, a place where I could study, relax, and unwind. It wasn’t just a room; it was a sanctuary. And it was all thanks to Delta Tau Delta and the amazing community of brothers that I had found there.

I can’t wait to come back
